Owen O'Toole MA. BA, Dip. Counselling MBACP
I gained my first counselling qualification in 1986, while working as a teacher. Over the years I obtained further qualifications and found the skills and the self- awareness I developed, were not only useful when working with children but also with staff and parents/carers. I found that actively listening to people while being empathic often helped move the situation in a positive direction.
In the last 8 years I have worked with clients from 5 to 70 years old, in different situations including private practice, schools, medical centres and bereavement services.
Although I employ aspects from various counselling models, my approach is underpinned by positive regard for my client, empathy, being non-judgemental, keeping confidences and creating an environment that engenders trust by my client.
In the 2020 New Year's Honours list I was very proud to receive The British Empire medal for my work with children with special educational needs.
If you feel I can support you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
